Morris Commercial Unveils New Pre-Production JE Electric Van And Confirms Production Roadmap

Morris Commercial today unveiled its latest pre-production Morris JE at the EE West Show in Cheltenham, marking a significant milestone as the company moves closer to production and the return of one of Britain’s most iconic commercial vehicle names.

The unveiling follows substantial progress across engineering validation, manufacturing planning and strategic technology ownership, including the acquisition of Prodrive Composites capabilities, while supporting the company’s planned transition to pilot production in 2027 and commercial-scale production in 2028.

A New Category – Beyond Utility
Desirable, instantly recognisable and unforgettable, the Morris JE brings one of Britain’s most beloved automotive designs into the electric age. Inspired by the iconic Morris J-Type that helped define post-war Britain, the JE combines timeless design, advanced electric technology and sustainable materials to create a commercial vehicle unlike anything else on the road today. The JE is more than transport – it is a personal statement, a brand in motion, and a platform for identity. It enables owners to express who they are – visibly, emotionally, and unmistakably. It transforms a working vehicle into a customer experience, a storytelling tool, and a competitive advantage.

Designed to Inspire
Every line, every surface, and every detail of the Morris JE have been shaped with intent:
to create a vehicle that doesn’t just perform – but connects. It is built to inspire optimism, spark curiosity, create moments of joy – whether arriving at a village high street, a city café, a sporting event, a festival or a customer’s doorstep. For its owners, the JE is not simply an asset, it is a lifestyle choice, a business enabler, and a daily expression of ambition.

Advanced by Innovation and Engineering
Beneath its iconic form lies one of the most advanced architectures in the commercial vehicle sector:

  • World’s first recycled carbon fibre monocoque commercial vehicle body (lightweight and sustainable)
  • Lightweight aluminium chassis architecture
  • Payload capability up to 1,000kg at 2,500kg GVW
  • Cargo volume up to 6.0m³ and unparalleled capacity to footprint ratio
  • Range up to 300 miles, 30 min charging from 20% to 80% with 10 min 20% to 80% super-fast charge option
  • Modular platform supporting pickup, minibus and camper derivatives

Key elements have been engineered in partnership with globally recognised, proven suppliers, ensuring not only innovation – but credibility, reliability, and durability at scale.

Built with Confidence – Development to Production
The path to production has been defined by one of the most demanding regulatory environments in automotive history. From safety and battery compliance to cybersecurity and software architecture, the Morris JE has been engineered to meet the standards of tomorrow. This latest pre-production vehicle represents a decisive step forward – demonstrating tangible progress in engineering validation, manufacturing readiness, supply chain integration and industrial capability.

Industrial Capability – Vision to Production
Beyond vehicle development, Morris Commercial has continued to strengthen the foundations of its manufacturing future.

The acquisition of Prodrive Composites capabilities has brought advanced composite manufacturing expertise, facilities and intellectual property into the group, providing direct control over one of the Morris JE’s most important enabling technologies. This strategic move gives Morris Commercial ownership of critical capabilities while supporting future innovation, quality control and production scalability. Together with ongoing manufacturing planning and investment, these developments establish a clear pathway towards pilot production in 2027 at our composite manufacturing facility in Milton Keynes and commercial-scale production at St Athan, South Wales in 2028.

Proven Market Demand
The vision is already resonating. Interest in the Morris JE continues to grow, with more than 7,000 expressions of interest registered from prospective customers globally. The company continues to receive enquiries from businesses and private customers across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. Early customer interest has been especially strong among premium retailers, hospitality businesses, artisan food and beverage operators, specialist trades, sports and creative industries. These customers recognise what the JE represents: A step-change in how vehicles contribute to brand, experience, and value.

A Defining Moment
The latest pre-production JE unveiled today is more than a vehicle. It is a visible demonstration of progress backed by Industrial capability, a demonstration that one of Britain’s most iconic commercial vehicle names is moving steadily towards a new chapter, a chapter where design meets technology and heritage meets innovation. A vehicle born in 1948 alongside the Morris Minor and Landrover Defender, reimagined for a new generation.

It is designed to put a smile on people’s faces for decades to come.
Dr Qu Li, the founder and CEO commented: “The Morris JE represents everything we believe the future of commercial vehicles should be. It’s not just about capability – it’s also about connection. Not just about transport – but also about identity. We are creating something people don’t just need – but genuinely want. The vehicle unveiled here is our latest pre-production JE. It reflects years of engineering, validation and investment. We believe vans can do more than simply move goods – they can inspire optimism, strengthen brands and create lasting connections with people. That is what makes the Morris JE unique.

Professor John Miles, Chairman of Morris Commercial, commented: “The unveiling of the latest pre-production JE represents another important milestone for Morris Commercial. Over recent years the company has built strong foundations across vehicle development, manufacturing capability, technology ownership and supplier partnerships. The Board remains confident in the opportunity ahead. Morris combines a highly differentiated product, proprietary technology, growing customer interest and a clear path to production, creating a strong platform for future growth.”

Alistair Currie, Non-Executive Director, CEO of Capital for Colleagues Plc commented: “As an Investor in Morris Commercial we continue to be impressed by the strength of the market response to the Morris JE. The company has created a vehicle that customers genuinely want. The combination of iconic design, advanced engineering and strong brand appeal has generated substantial interest well ahead of production. Equally important is the skill, determination and execution demonstrated by the management of the business. As investors, we are encouraged by what has been achieved and excited by the opportunity ahead.”
