A Fife electrician is backing UK Small Business Week after turning national awards and international skills competition success into a new business focused on bringing high standards and professionalism to local customers.
DM Logic Electrical Systems Ltd, founded by Danny McBean, is supporting UK Small Business Week (https://entrepreneurscircle.org/sbw/), the nationwide initiative launched by entrepreneur Nigel Botterill and backed by Entrepreneurs Circle to recognise the contribution small businesses make to local communities and the wider economy.
Based in Fife, the business provides domestic, commercial and industrial electrical services for homeowners, landlords and businesses across the region.
Danny launched the company after building a strong reputation within the electrical trade through apprenticeships, industrial electrical work and national skills competitions.
He won gold at SkillElectric 2023, was twice named SECTT Apprentice of the Year, received the Rab Sherry Award for the highest Scottish competitor score and went on to represent Team UK at WorldSkills Lyon 2024 in renewable energy, where the team finished fourth in the world.
Danny McBean said the experience taught him the importance of precision, consistency and taking pride in workmanship.
“When you compete at that level, you realise how important standards really are,” he said.
“You’re judged on everything — accuracy, safety, organisation, problem-solving and the quality of the finished work.”
Danny said starting his own business felt like the natural next step after years spent developing his skills within the industry.
“I wanted to build something around the standards and values I genuinely believe in,” he said.
“For me, electrical work is not just about getting something working. It’s about making sure it’s safe, reliable, compliant and finished properly.”
The business now supports local homeowners, landlords, builders and businesses with electrical installations, rewires, testing, fault finding, lighting upgrades and industrial control work.
Danny said many customers simply want tradespeople they can trust.
“A lot of people have had poor experiences with trades not turning up, poor communication or work being left unfinished,” he said.
“I want DM Logic to be known for professionalism, reliability and doing things properly.”
Danny believes smaller independent businesses often stand out because their reputation depends entirely on the quality of their work.
“When it’s your own business, every single job matters because your name is attached to it,” he said.
“That pushes you to maintain high standards all the time.”
Alongside growing the company, Danny hopes the business will eventually create opportunities for apprentices and young people looking to build careers in the trades.
“My own journey shows what apprenticeships and skills training can lead to,” he said.
“There are incredible opportunities in the trades if people are willing to learn and take pride in what they do.”
Nigel Botterill, founder of UK Small Business Week and Entrepreneurs Circle, said:
“Small businesses are often built by people who have spent years mastering their craft before taking the leap to build something themselves.
“UK Small Business Week is about recognising those founders and celebrating the role independent businesses play in communities across Britain.”
UK Small Business Week runs from 1 to 7 June and will see businesses across the country taking part in local events, social media activity and community campaigns celebrating independent firms and entrepreneurship.
