Celtic maintained their 100 per cent start to the league season, with a come-from-behind win away at previously unbeaten St Mirren.
Martin O’Neill’s side were trailing 1-0 in the first half after a penalty from Nikolas Agrafiotis put the hosts into a shock lead. But Celtic rallied after the break and goals from Liam Scales and Yang Hyun-Jun flipped the game on its head to make it five wins from five for the Bhoys.
“Overall, there were some sparkling moments from us and some moments where we had a total contrast,” O’Neill said afterwards. “We took the game in the end. I think for the chances we created we probably deserved it, but we can improve.”
Rangers continued their upsurge in form as they sealed a third straight league win. The Gers triumphed 1-0 at home to Motherwell with Ryan Naderi’s early goal all that separated the two teams at Ibrox. The margin of victory could have been greater but for a missed spot-kick from Kim Min-su, but ultimately Derek McInnes’ troops held out.
Speaking post-match, he reflected: “We’d have taken any sort of win because we’re up against a good team, in form, but I really enjoyed how many chances we created.”
Hearts moved up to second thanks to a dramatic 2-1 win at home to ten-man Dundee. Trailing with six minutes left, the hosts scored twice through a Claudio Braga penalty and a Sabah Kerjota strike to make it four league wins on the spin.
The weekend’s other top flight results saw Kilmarnock pick up their first point of the season with a 0-0 stalemate at Aberdeen, Dundee United snatch a point late on against Falkirk – Michael Forbes’ stoppage time header ensuring a 1-1 draw – and St Johnstone beat Hibernian 2-1 thanks to a Josh Fowler brace.
