Celtic maintained their perfect start to the Scottish Premiership campaign, with a routine 3-0 home win over Aberdeen on Wednesday evening.
The Bhoys sealed a fourth straight victory thanks to a dominant performance, with Camilo Duran once again on the scoresheet. That’s now six goals in seven games for Celtic for the Colombian since switching from Qarabag. He notched early before further strikes from Benjamin Nygren and Yang Hyun-jun sealed the match before half-time, rendering the second half akin to a training ground routine.
Elsewhere, Rangers left it late to secure back-to-back wins. They sealed a 2-1 victory away at gritty Falkirk. The hosts fell behind early on to a Lawrence Shankland strike but levelled up just before half-time when Kosta Nedeljkovic put through his own net. With a stalemate looming, Shankland unleashed a shot into the bottom corner to win it for the Gers.
His manager Derek McInnes will have no doubt been relieved to seal a second straight win and ease some of the pressure on him.
“I’m pleased with the win, pleased with certain aspects,” McInnes said afterwards. “The pitch was difficult – very greasy and slippy. We invited unnecessary pressure on ourselves, no more than the equaliser. I thought Falkirk were the better team for a 15-minute period in the second half and we were fortunate not to concede. We can fine tune some of the attacking play, but we’ve got to not give too much encouragement to our opponents.”
St Mirren’s encouraging early season form shows no sign of stopping as they escaped Kilmarnock with a 1-0 win. Fraser Taylor’s early goal was the difference and the Saints stay second and unbeaten whilst lowly Killie remain without a point to their name.
Elsewhere on Wednesday night, Motherwell maintained their good start as they romped to a 3-0 home win over ten-man Dundee United. The night’s other game saw two late goals in a 1-1 draw between Dundee and St Johnstone, with the hosts’ Charlie Reilly scoring in the 87th minute for what he thought was the winner, only for the visitors’ Josh Fowler to restore parity in the final minute.
