Celtic will aim to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Scottish Premiership season on Wednesday evening.
Martin O’Neill’s side host Aberdeen in one of five top flight fixtures across the busy midweek schedule. After their European nightmares this season – and their recent Champions League collapse just last week to LASK – Celtic now have a run of domestic fixtures to keep them busy.
After seeing off Falkirk last weekend, Celtic host an Aberdeen side reeling from two straight league reversals. Not that Celtic’s coaching staff are underestimating the Dons.
Assistant Shaun Maloney, previewing the game, said: “We have got really good players – and we have to demand more from them.
“We will prepare for them (Aberdeen) being a back four and a back five. They have predominantly been a four this season. They have a big threat in the final third. I know Kevin Nesbit as striker is in brilliant form. I think it will be a tough game.
“We have looked really good attacking. As a team and as a group, I think we can definitely tighten up without the ball. We have to be more aggressive. I think at times we look really good attacking, but I think we want more without the ball, as everyone. If we do get that, I think we are a decent side.”
Elsewhere, Glasgow Rangers are set for a season without European football whatsoever for the first time in almost a decade so will be fully focused on moving up the league table in the weeks and months ahead. They finally sealed a first win of the season, albeit it was a nervy 1-0 success against Aberdeen. They’ll be looking to follow that up when they travel to Falkirk – who sit second-bottom with one point from a possible nine.
There’s an intriguing game in store at Rugby Park when Kilmarnock host surprise package St Mirren. The Saints, who only survived relegation to the Championship through the play-offs last term, have made a terrific start to 2026-27 and remain unbeaten with seven points garnered from a possible nine. They travel to rock-bottom Kilmarnock who are aiming to avoid a fourth straight setback.
The other Wednesday night fixtures see Dundee host St Johnstone and Motherwell welcome Dundee United whilst on Thursday there’s a cracking clash in prospect as Hibernian host Hearts in the Edinburgh derby.
